Fortín de Reina Regente, Melilla, Military fortress in Melilla, Spain.
The Fortín de Reina Regente is a military fortress in Melilla featuring a dodecagonal base on its first level and a circular upper level finished with crenellations. Its construction combines stone walls with solid brick vaults supported by iron beams.
It was constructed between 1884 and 1885 to serve as a defensive post in the region. The fortification was part of Spain's military strategy to maintain control in North Africa.
The fort received recognition as a Cultural Heritage Site in 1990, representing the military architecture of Spanish fortifications in North Africa.
The fortress is located near the Millan Astray Barracks on Via Lactea Road. Visitors can examine the original stone walls and the brick vault structures from various vantage points around the site.
The 1982 renovation replaced the original wooden floors with concrete vaults supported by iron beams while preserving the neo-medieval architectural style.
