Castillo de Bibataubín

Castillo de Bibataubín is a Baroque building in central Granada featuring a three-story main facade marked by a central balcony with marble columns and arches in the Elvira style. The structure combines military and administrative functions within a unified architectural design.

The structure was originally built as an Almohad fortress in the 12th century and underwent fundamental transformation after the Christian conquest by the Catholic Monarchs. This shift reflects the change from a military installation to a representative administrative building.

The building houses artworks that document Granada's visual heritage from the 17th through early 20th centuries, featuring a notable collection of paintings. These works reflect the city's artistic evolution across several historical periods.

The building is located between Las Angustias Basilica and Plaza Mariana Pineda in a central location easily reached on foot. Since it serves as an administrative headquarters today, visitors should note that not all areas are freely accessible.

Archaeological excavations revealed cannon embrasures and the lower bulwark wall, showing how the fortress evolved over centuries. These findings illustrate the site's military importance during different periods of the city's development.
