Al Nejashi Mosque, Ancient mosque in Wukro, Ethiopia
The Al Nejashi Mosque stands in the Tigray region with white walls, multiple domes, and minarets reflecting Ethiopian architectural elements.
Built during the first Islamic migration to Africa in the 7th century, this mosque became a sanctuary for early Muslims fleeing persecution.
The mosque contains 15 tombs of the first Islamic followers who arrived from Arabia, making it an important site for Ethiopian Muslims.
The mosque is located 800 kilometers north of Addis Ababa, with regular prayer services and guided visits available for international visitors.
In 2021, the mosque underwent restoration after sustaining damage during regional conflicts, preserving its status as Africa's earliest Islamic structure.
