Parkanon vesitorni, Water tower in Parkano, Finland.
Parkanon vesitorni is a steel water tower that rises approximately 40 meters above the ground with a hexagonal tank made from circular pipes at its top. The structure stores water in large quantity and distributes it continuously throughout the town.
The tower was built in 1970 by Parkano Oy as an attempt to develop water towers suitable for mass production. This innovative design aimed to show that such structures could be manufactured efficiently and repeatedly.
The tower shows how Parkano grew as an industrial town and used new technology to reliably supply water to residents. Visitors can see how practical engineering shaped the town's identity.
The tower is located in a central spot in Parkano and can be seen from many points across the town. The best viewing angle is from the surrounding area where you can take in its full height and structure.
Although this tower was designed as a prototype for series production, it remained the only one ever built using this method. This makes it a rare example of an industrial experiment that did not lead to mass manufacturing.
