The building opened in 1901 to serve as a repair center for the nation's railway network. It played a central role in keeping trains running and maintaining Finland's rail operations for many decades.
The National Board of Antiquities includes this site among Helsinki's most important industrial environments, protected by both Railway Act and municipal regulations.
The site is located in a designated protected area and is not open for casual visits. You can still view the building's classic industrial architecture from outside as you walk past.
The building was once a busy place filled with workers repairing and maintaining railway wagons. Today the space serves different purposes, but traces of its industrial past remain visible in the walls and floors.
