Hautecombe Abbey

The white stone building of Hautecombe Abbey stands against limestone cliffs, with its neo-Gothic architecture reflecting in the waters of Lake Bourget.

Founded in 1101, the monastery served as a burial place for the House of Savoy until Charles Felix ordered its complete reconstruction in 1824.

The abbey features marble sculptures, detailed frescoes, and architectural elements that combine Cistercian traditions with Troubadour style influences.

Visitors can join guided tours from Wednesday to Sunday between 14:30 and 17:00, with tickets priced at 4.50 euros per person.

The Chemin Neuf Community maintains daily prayer services in this monastery, which houses the tombs of Italian kings and Savoyard counts.
