Évry

Évry serves as the administrative center of the Essonne department and sits southeast of the capital in a zone planned as a new town during the 1960s. The streets are laid out in wide patterns, buildings follow a modern grid, and public squares connect residential areas with commercial and service districts.

The original village of Évry-Petit-Bourg grew slowly until the mid-20th century and transformed from 1965 onward into a planned new town to absorb the growing population around Paris. Today the commune forms part of the larger municipality of Évry-Courcouronnes, which emerged in 2019 from the merger of two neighboring towns.

The Cathedral of the Resurrection presents cylindrical architecture with 24 tree-shaped columns, demonstrating contemporary religious design principles of the late 20th century.

RER Line D connects the town to the center of the capital, with several stations along the route. The Agora shopping center offers a wide range of shops and makes errands easier for visitors staying longer.

The round Cathedral of the Resurrection rises as a cylinder of bricks and displays columns inside that mimic tree trunks. This unusual shape for a religious building belongs to the late experiments of modern architecture in France.
