Keroman Submarine Base, World War II submarine base in Lorient, France
The massive concrete structure encompasses three main blocks spanning 26 hectares, featuring reinforced bunkers designed to protect submarines from aerial attacks.
German forces constructed this naval facility between 1941 and 1943, establishing a strategic Atlantic outpost that housed over 200 U-boats during World War II.
The former military installation now functions as Lorient La Base, integrating maritime heritage exhibitions with the Cité de la Voile Éric Tabarly sailing center.
Visitors can explore Block K3 through guided tours, examine the preserved Flore submarine, and learn about naval operations through interactive exhibits.
The base contains a survival simulator from 1942, created specifically for training submarine crews in emergency escape procedures during underwater missions.
