Flore, Attack submarine museum at Keroman Base in Lorient, France
The Flore is an attack submarine museum located at Keroman Base in Lorient and displays a fully operational French naval vessel from the postwar era. The boat is divided into several sections including command center, crew quarters, engine room, and torpedo compartments that visitors can walk through.
The submarine was built in 1960 as part of a Cold War era class of vessels and served the French Navy until 1989. After decommissioning it was permanently installed at Keroman harbor and has operated as a museum to the public ever since.
The vessel shows how sailors lived and worked in tight quarters during long underwater missions, with bunk beds, galley, and narrow passageways that reveal the daily reality of submariners.
Visitors can choose from seven language audio guides while exploring the submarine and the adjacent exhibition space about naval operations. The narrow passageways and steep stairways require good mobility, particularly for people with movement difficulties.
The museum houses a reconstructed training module called Vulcain where naval personnel practiced emergency procedures during their preparation. This installation shows how sailors trained for critical situations beneath the water.
