Flore, Attack submarine museum at Keroman Base in Lorient, France
Flore is a French attack submarine turned museum ship, moored at Keroman harbor in Lorient, and open for visitors to walk through. The boat is fully preserved and gives access to its command room, crew berths, engine room, and torpedo sections.
The submarine was commissioned in 1960 for the French Navy and served for nearly three decades before being decommissioned in 1989. It was then permanently moored at Keroman and opened to the public as a museum.
The vessel shows how sailors lived and worked in tight quarters during long underwater missions, with bunk beds, galley, and narrow passageways that reveal the daily reality of submariners.
Moving through the boat requires good mobility, as the corridors are very narrow and the ladders steep. Audio guides in several languages are available to help understand each section of the vessel.
Inside the museum there is a training module called Vulcain, where naval personnel practiced emergency procedures before going on real missions. This installation is rarely seen by the public and shows a side of submarine life that goes beyond the boat itself.
