Abbaye Sainte-Marie d'Arles-sur-Tech

The building features three naves within its Romanesque architecture, accompanied by a Gothic cloister constructed during the thirteenth century.

Founded in 778, the monastery stands as the oldest Carolingian religious establishment in Catalonia, marking the start of Christian colonization in the region.

The church contains numerous religious artifacts, including a Romanesque baptismal font, ancient funeral inscriptions, and an 18th-century Schmidt organ.

The abbey opens from Tuesday through Sunday between 2 PM and 6 PM, with admission fees of 4 euros for adults and 3 euros for groups.

A fourth-century sarcophagus near the church entrance continuously produces clear water since housing the relics of Saints Abdon and Sennen.
