Tarare

Tarare is a town in the Rhône department that spreads across valleys and hills, blending residential neighborhoods with industrial zones throughout its area. The settlement combines rural and urban elements across its varied landscape.

The town began as a priory founded by Savigny Abbey in the 12th century and grew into a center of crafts. Weavers, shoemakers, and tanners later settled here and shaped the community for centuries.

The Festival of Mousselines takes place every five years, honoring the town's textile past with colorful fabrics and decorated floats parading through the streets. The event shows how locals continue to celebrate their craft heritage.

The town is easy to reach thanks to its SNCF station and proximity to the A89 motorway, offering good transportation links. Several schools and facilities are spread throughout and relatively easy to locate.

In the 1950s, the town became France's center for curtain production, making a significant portion of the nation's Tergal veiling. This specialization turned the place into a major hub for this particular industry.
