Le Castellet, Medieval village in Var, France
Le Castellet is a village at 300 meters altitude positioned on a cliff edge in Var, southeastern France. The surroundings are marked by vineyards that produce the red wines of the Bandol appellation.
The village grew around a 15th-century castle that now serves as the town hall. This fortress shaped the settlement and still defines its structure and role in the region.
Marcel Pagnol chose this location to film 'La Femme du Boulanger' with actor Raimu, adding to France's cinema heritage. The narrow streets and stone houses still shape the village's appearance and invite visitors to wander through.
Visitors find two large parking areas, especially useful during summer months and motorsport events. The village is easy to explore on foot, though steep paths and narrow streets require sturdy shoes.
The village received recognition as one of France's most beautiful villages in October 2022. About 5 kilometers away sits the famous Paul Ricard Circuit, a world-renowned motorsport facility that hosts major international events.
