Cîteaux Abbey

Cîteaux Abbey is a Cistercian monastery complex of stone buildings located between fields near Dijon and Beaune in Burgundy, with parts dating from the eleventh century. The structures display Gothic features and have been carefully restored while maintaining their historical character.

Founded in 1098, the abbey is considered the birthplace of the Cistercian movement, which rapidly inspired thousands of monasteries across Europe. This foundation became one of the most influential religious movements of its time during the twelfth century.
