Lac du Causse, reservoir in France
Lac du Causse is a reservoir in Saint-Cernin-de-Larche, Corrèze, set in a green, rolling landscape and covering approximately 84 to 100 hectares of water. The lake features a sandy beach with shallow shore areas, a boat rental center, designated swimming zones, and various water and land activities including sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, mountain biking, and fishing.
The reservoir was artificially created and first filled with water in summer 1976, damming the natural Couze valley. Since then, it has grown into a major venue for international rowing competitions, including world championships for students and young athletes.
The lake is known for hosting rowing competitions that attract participants from around the world, particularly students and young athletes. The water and surrounding grounds are maintained by the local community to support both sporting events and everyday recreation.
The lake is staffed with lifeguards during warm months from July through August, and water quality is monitored regularly. A large parking area in the nearby town of Lissac-sur-Couze provides easy access, and walking and biking paths lead from there to the lake, with a 7 kilometer loop trail running along the shore.
A striking judge's tower stands near the shore to allow officials to oversee the arrival of racing boats during competitions. This structure stands as a symbol of the lake's international status as a venue for serious rowing events.
