Château d'Acquigny, Renaissance castle in Acquigny, France

The castle stands at the meeting point of the Eure and Iton rivers, featuring stone construction with intertwined initials on its crest.

William the Conqueror ordered the construction of a fortress on this site around 1040 as part of the Norman defense system against potential invasions.

The architectural design by Philibert de l'Orme in 1557 incorporated numerous symbols representing marriage bonds throughout the castle structure.

The castle opens its doors to visitors during specific hours, offering guided tours of both the main building and the surrounding gardens.

The confluence of two rivers creates a microclimate around the castle that maintains warmer temperatures than the surrounding Norman region.
