Abbey of Notre-Dame d'Yerres

Abbey of Notre-Dame d'Yerres is a former convent in the region containing several historic buildings from different periods, including a 16th-century residential building and an 18th-century pharmacy section. The structures sit near the confluence of two rivers and are now protected as historical monuments.

The monastery was founded in 1132 when a local noble family donated land to house a community of religious women. Over the centuries, the site was rebuilt and expanded multiple times, with the visible buildings mainly dating from the 16th and 18th centuries.

The layout shows traces of the religious life that unfolded here, with rooms shaped around the daily routines of nuns who devoted themselves to prayer and craft work. You can still sense how different areas of monastic life were organized and what purpose each space served.

The site is located in the center of Yerres and can be easily reached on foot by following Rue du Clos des Abbesses. The buildings are protected monuments with restricted access, so checking availability in advance is helpful before your visit.

The residential building retains portions of the original oak timber framework from the 16th century, visible in the upper floors. Next to it stands an old refectory door from the same period, showing how well certain details of the original life have survived.
