Arboretum d'Harcourt, Botanical garden in Harcourt, France.
The Arboretum d'Harcourt is a botanical garden in Normandy housing a large collection of trees and shrubs spread across 23 hectares (57 acres) of land. The plants are arranged in different landscape sections, including open meadows and designed garden areas connected by walking paths.
The site began in 1835 when an owner hired a landscape designer to create an initial section focused on rare conifers. Over time the collection expanded to include trees and shrubs from many different regions across the globe.
The garden reflects French horticultural traditions by bringing together tree species from around the world in one place where visitors can see how they grow side by side. You notice how local gardeners care for plants that would normally grow thousands of miles apart from each other.
Visitors can explore the grounds independently or join guided tours to learn more about the different plants and their origins. Walking through the various sections and observing how the landscape changes with the seasons offers the best experience.
The garden holds plants from six continents, including rare species like the Wollemi pine from Australia that few places in the world display. This exceptional collection makes it an important location for protecting endangered tree species.
