Basilique Saint-Laurent de Choulans

The Saint-Laurent basilica remains include a semi-circular apse, northeast annex, and tripartite transept with collateral spaces and porticos measuring 50 by 20 meters.

Archaeological excavations from 1976 to 1985 uncovered evidence of continuous habitation from the 1st to 5th centuries, with major structural changes during the 3rd and 4th centuries.

The necropolis contains multiple burial types including sarcophagi, slab coffins, masonry graves, and stone coffins, dating from the 6th to 8th centuries.

Visitors can view the archaeological remains through a glass enclosure from the street, with access to detailed exploration only through guided tours organized by the Gallo-Roman Museum.

The site transformed from a paleochristian basilica to a church and later a chapel, maintaining its religious function until the 18th century.
