Château de Canchy

Château de Canchy is a castle in the Calvados region marked by square towers and extending roughly 100 meters along its main line. The structure sits near the Esque Valley on grounds of about 5 hectares.

The castle was a strategic medieval fortress working alongside nearby Château de Colombières to protect the region. Water-filled moats formed the first line of defense for this medieval complex.

The castle shows how a fortress gradually became a residence, with French garden designs that shape the grounds. The du Moustier de Canchy family has shaped the place and their stewardship remains visible today.

The castle remains in private hands and visits require advance arrangements with the owners. It is best to plan ahead if you wish to visit.

During the French Revolution, the Broglie family fled and the castle was sold as state property, leading to partial dismantling in 1799. This turbulent period left lasting marks on the structure.
