Château de Montmuran

Château de Montmuran is a medieval castle in Les Iffs featuring two functional drawbridges and seven defensive towers protecting the grounds. At its center stands a substantial keep that dominates the structure and forms the main architectural focus of the complex.

The castle was built and expanded between the 12th and 18th centuries, with its architecture reflecting layers of development across centuries. A significant moment occurred in the 14th century when an important knighting ceremony took place within its walls, marking a notable episode in its past.

The chapel displays medieval religious architecture with stone decorations from the 14th century. Visitors can see how this space reflected the spiritual life of the period through its design and details.

The site is best visited during daylight hours and works particularly well during the warmer months. Good footwear is recommended as paths cross stone foundations and partially uneven ground throughout the castle grounds.
