Château de Montmort, Renaissance castle in Montmort-Lucy, France.

Château de Montmort is a castle in the Champagne region with four corner towers, white stone decorations, and slate roofs sitting atop brick walls. The structure displays two distinct sections: a lower part featuring Renaissance bay windows and an upper section marked with 1577 as the construction date.

The site started as a medieval fortress and was transformed into a residence during the 16th century, keeping defensive features like moats and ramparts. This transformation reflects how the region shifted from military security to civilian living.

The ground floor displays painted canvases that theater decorator Eugène Cicéri installed in 1851, inspired by works from Sébastien Bourdon. Visitors can still see these artistic decorations that characterize the interior space.

Access to the upper terrace uses different routes - a wide spiral ramp for horses and a separate spiral staircase for visitors. Allow time to explore both of these architectural systems and move through the various levels of the building.

Inside the entrance tower runs a wide spiral ramp that allowed horses to reach the upper terrace, while a separate tighter spiral staircase beside it was reserved for people. This double system shows how property owners once integrated daily life with their animals into the building's design.
