Château de Montvéran
Château de Montvéran, Medieval castle in Culoz, France.
The rectangular main building of Château de Montvéran features machicolations and two round towers on its southern facade overlooking the Rhône valley.
Pierre de Luyrieu obtained permission to build the castle in 1316, despite initial objections from Louis of Savoy, leading to a treaty resolution.
The castle received numerous distinguished guests, including composer Sergei Prokofiev in 1929 and Henriette d'Angeville, who climbed Mont Blanc in 1838.
Visitors can tour the castle and its gardens from July through September on Mondays, Saturdays, and Sundays between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
At the entrance path to the castle stands an ancient stone aqueduct and reservoir that once supplied water to the seigniorial mills.
