Château de Neuville

Château de Neuville is a Renaissance castle in Gambais with a central block and two matching wings built from red brick and pale stone. The building sits within a large wooded estate that includes secondary structures and open grounds.

The castle was built between 1570 and 1580 by a famous architect for a royal court official. In the 18th century, classical features were added that updated the exterior and matched changing tastes.

The castle shows how Renaissance design spread across the Paris region through the work of important court builders. You can see how French and classical styles blend together in the stones and proportions of the buildings.

The site is difficult to access and mainly used for private events rather than open to regular visitors. You should check in advance whether visits are possible, as access is quite limited.

The castle survived the French Revolution even though its owner at that time was executed, and later came back into the hands of the original family. This unusual recovery makes it a rare example of continuity despite major political upheaval.
