Château Miraval, Medieval château and winery in Correns-Var, France
Château Miraval is a château and winery set on a 400-hectare estate in Correns with stone terraces, gardens featuring fountains, a chapel, and ancient aqueducts. The sprawling vineyards are surrounded by oak and pine forests and produce organic wines under the Côtes de Provence appellation.
The property began as a monastery in the 13th century before becoming a noble residence and later gaining a wine cellar built in 1850 by engineer Joseph Lambot, a pioneer in concrete construction.
The château became known as Studio Miraval in 1977 when jazz pianist Jacques Loussier set up recording facilities, and the space hosted sessions that contributed to iconic music recordings.
The winery is located in a forested area of southern France and is most easily reached by car. Plan enough time to walk through the vineyards and gardens, as the property covers considerable ground.
The wine cellar maintains a steady temperature of around 15 degrees Celsius year-round without artificial climate control, thanks to its thick stone construction. This natural cooling allows wines to age under ideal conditions over extended periods.
