Castle of Misy

Castle of Misy, Historical castle in Misy-sur-Yonne, France.

The castle of Misy is an 18th-century noble residence with classical French architecture and an ornate entrance gate bearing the Brion-Castelnau family crest. The gardens surrounding the main building have been recently restored to reflect their original layout and planting design.

This residence was built around 1750 by Noël Jacques Michel de Brion as a statement of wealth and refined taste within French nobility. The property later passed to the Marquis de Sinéty family, whose members made additions that reflected their own life experiences and travels.

The small Orthodox chapel on the grounds shows how the Sinéty family brought distant influences back home and blended them into their everyday life. This choice to honor Russian traditions reveals how people here welcomed other cultures into their private world.

The gardens are open for visitors to walk through and explore at a relaxed pace along well-maintained pathways. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended since the grounds cover a substantial area with varying terrain.

A family member who survived Napoleon's Russian campaign brought back a deep attachment to Orthodox faith and built a complete chapel on the property to honor it. This hidden structure still stands today and catches visitors by surprise with its striking presence among the French surroundings.
