Château d'Oyé

Château d'Oyé is a rectangular stone structure with two round corner towers capped by pointed roofs and an octagonal staircase tower at one end. Windows throughout display different lintel styles and decorative frames that vary across the building.

The castle emerged as a stronghold of the lords of Semur during the 11th century before the Luzy family gained control in the 13th century. Subsequent modifications during the 15th and 16th centuries introduced new architectural details visible in the windows.

The staircase tower entrance displays carved coats of arms beneath an ornate gable flanked by pinnacles. These decorative elements reflect the wealth and status of the families who called this place home.

The castle sits in Saône-et-Loire in Burgundy, positioned about an hour from major regional routes and the city of Lyon. Access to the site is via local roads through countryside, so visiting requires advance planning for travel.

The octagonal staircase tower stands out as an unusual design choice compared to the square towers typical of medieval fortifications. This distinctive form allowed for more efficient circulation through the interior space.
