Château des Cars

The castle features a square layout measuring 30 meters on each side, with remaining towers and fragments of the former stables in the lower courtyard.

The initial construction dates back to the 12th century, later becoming the residence of the Pérusse family who expanded it during the 15th and 16th centuries.

The stables contain preserved Renaissance elements, including decorated dormer windows with shell pediments and painted scenes of horses arranged in four distinct registers.

The castle ruins remain partially accessible to visitors through collaboration between the commune of Les Cars and a local archaeological organization.

The stable building spans 37 meters in length and features rare surviving Renaissance architectural elements, including traces of decorative stucco imitating grey stones.
