Château des Creissauds, Castle in Aubagne, France
Château des Creissauds is a stone castle located between La Penne-sur-Huveaune and Aubagne in the Clos Rufisque area, concealed by surrounding hills along the Huveaune valley. The west wing holds rental studios and apartments, while the grounds include a tree-top bar, restaurant, outdoor swimming pool, and conference spaces.
The current structure was built in the 19th century by Henri Saver, a Marseille shipowner, upon older foundations with vaulted rooms dating to the 16th century. This blend of older and newer elements shows the property's architectural layering across centuries.
The castle sits amid a diverse botanical collection with plane trees, chestnut trees, almond trees, boxwood, laurels, yuccas, and palm trees surrounding a pine forest. This plant variety shapes the appearance of the grounds and creates different zones across the property.
The grounds are accessible through paths and entrances that connect different areas and pass through the botanical gardens. The combination of restaurant, bar, and swimming pool allows visitors to spend time in various sections of the property.
The estate houses the Saturday Jazz Club and maintains an aromatic garden used by the Ferroni distillery located on the grounds. This uncommon combination brings together cultural events with artisanal fragrance production.
