Built in the 1800s, the estate was originally owned by Charles Lefebvre-Desnouettes before the Russian-born Countess de Ségur purchased it in 1820. The region of Orne acquired the property in 1930 and converted it into a medical-educational facility.
The Countess de Ségur created many of her literary works while residing here with her large family, making the place an important center of French writing during the 1800s. Visitors can sense the creative environment she established within these walls.
The property is open to visitors but with limited hours that should be checked in advance. Since it operates as a medical facility, some areas may not be accessible to the public.
