Hôtel de la Princesse Mathilde, Private mansion in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, France.
Hôtel de la Princesse Mathilde is a private mansion on Rue de Courcelles featuring neoclassical design with carefully balanced proportions. The structure includes ornamental details throughout and contains a garden space where a ballroom was added to accommodate larger gatherings.
Architect Bernard Poyet designed this building in 1812 on land formerly owned by financier Jacques-Louis-Guillaume Bouret de Vézelay. Princess Mathilde acquired the property later and transformed it into a cultural center during the Second Empire period.
Princess Mathilde's salon became a major gathering place for artists, writers, and politicians during the 1800s. Today visitors can see the rooms that once hosted these influential social and intellectual meetings.
The building sits in a well-connected area with several metro stations nearby for easy access. Keep in mind this is a private monument, so visiting may require advance arrangements or viewing from the street.
The Rothschild family occupied this residence during the 1970s after departing from another prominent Parisian mansion. This move marked a shift in where one of Europe's most influential families centered their Paris activities.
