Musée Fenaille

Musée Fenaille is an archaeological museum housed in a historic building that displays objects spanning multiple time periods. The collections spread across three floors and present findings from prehistory through the modern era in chronological order.

The building was originally a mansion and was donated to the city in the early 20th century by Maurice Fenaille, a wealthy patron who made his fortune in oil and supported sculptor Rodin. His generous gift created an institution to preserve local archaeological discoveries.

The statue-menhir collection displays artworks that show how prehistoric people imagined human forms in stone. Visitors encounter these carved figures throughout the museum and sense the values these ancient communities held.

The Lady of Saint-Sernin is one of Western Europe's oldest life-size human representations and dates to the 3rd millennium BCE. This statue-menhir reveals how far back our ancestors' artistic abilities extended.
