Parc du Mont-Valérien

Parc du Mont-Valérien is a park situated on a hill in Rueil-Malmaison featuring walking paths, landscaped areas, and several viewpoints. From these elevated spots, you can look out across the surrounding landscape and toward the broader region.

A fortress on the grounds was built in 1814 following the occupation of Paris and later served as a military strongpoint during the Franco-Prussian War. This position held strategic importance for defending the region.

The park takes its name from the hill where it stands and functions as a place of remembrance for visitors. People come to honor fallen soldiers and to walk among the monuments that tell their stories.

The park is accessible via the Paris-Saint-Lazare train line and several bus routes serving the area. Wear comfortable shoes since the paths go up and down the hill and require some walking.

The grounds house a signal regiment responsible for communications, along with a carrier pigeon breeding facility. This pigeon program preserves a tradition from the 19th century that was once used for sending military messages.
