Place Saint-Louis, Medieval square in the city center, Metz, France.
This historic square features a gallery of nearly sixty arcades dating from the Middle Ages, with houses built on Roman fortifications and low tiled roofs creating a uniform architectural ensemble.
Established in the 14th century on land formerly crossed by the Seille river, the square served as a commercial hub for money changers and merchants during medieval times.
The square hosts weekly markets every Thursday morning and the annual Christmas market from late November through December, maintaining its tradition as a center for trade and community gatherings.
The square is located in central Metz at coordinates 49.1163 north latitude and 6.1789 east longitude, and has been redesigned as a pedestrian area since 2007 for easier access.
A legend tells that a glove maker had the imprint of his hand carved on a house facade after winning a legal dispute, refusing compensation and choosing this permanent mark instead.
