Prefecture hotel of Finistère

The Prefecture hotel of Finistère is an administrative building in Quimper featuring Renaissance architectural details, decorated facades, and sculptural ornaments. The structure sits on Boulevard Dupleix and combines classical design elements with a solid construction.

Architect Adolphe Vally designed this administrative center, which was built between 1906 and 1909 for the departmental government. It replaced an earlier prefecture building located at Sainte-Catherine hospital.

Stone carvings of traditional Breton musicians decorate the secondary entrance facing the Odet river. These sculptures reflect the local artistic heritage and give character to the side of the building.

The building sits in central Quimper and is easily accessible by foot from Boulevard Dupleix. Visitors can view the exterior facades and sculptures from the street, though interior access may be limited.

Vally designed the main entrance as an offset corner tower to solve tricky terrain constraints while keeping Renaissance design principles. This clever solution shows how the architect adapted classical style to the site's specific conditions.
