Réserve naturelle régionale de la tourbière de Logné, Regional nature reserve near Vred, France

The réserve naturelle régionale de la tourbière de Logné is a regional nature reserve near Vred in Loire-Atlantique, classified under IUCN category IV. It is made up of a raised peat bog with floating ground, sphagnum moss mats, reed beds, and small ponds left by past peat extraction.

The site was formerly used for peat extraction before it was set aside to protect its natural vegetation. In 2011, it was officially designated a regional nature reserve, following years of restoration work by volunteers from Bretagne Vivante who began in 1993.

The Tourbière de Logné sits within the valley of the Erdre river, part of a larger network of marshlands that includes areas like Brière and Grand-Lieu. Guided outings, held once a year, give visitors a chance to see the bog's rare plants and animals up close.

Visits are only possible through a guided outing held once a year, which must be booked in advance. The ground is wet and uneven, so sturdy waterproof boots are needed, and the site is not suitable for people with limited mobility.

The Tourbière de Logné is the southernmost of three rounded peat bogs in the Armorican Massif, which makes it botanically unusual for this part of France. Specialists like E. Gadeceau and T. Lloyd had already noted its importance in the 19th century, long before it received any legal protection.
