Hôtel de la Bourse, Private mansion in La Rochelle, France.

The Hôtel de la Bourse is a private mansion in La Rochelle with two wings connected by a columned gallery that frames an interior courtyard featuring a compass rose pattern. The three-story building displays classical architecture with ornate stone detailing and decorative elements throughout.

This building was constructed in 1760 following architect Pierre Mathieu René Hue's plans to replace a consular jurisdiction building destroyed by fire. Its construction was part of the city's urban renewal during the 18th century.

The facade decorations show maritime symbols such as anchors and sextants, reflecting the city's deep connection to sea trade. These naval motifs appear throughout the building and tell the story of its commercial heritage.

The building sits on Rue du Palais and currently houses the commercial court of La Rochelle with limited public access. Visitors should check ahead as the interior may not always be open for viewing.

The interior courtyard displays intricate carved reliefs celebrating maritime trade, with detailed nautical instruments sculpted into the stone. These crafted details are so fine that they often go unnoticed by visitors focused on the outer facade.
