Pont du Robinet, Suspension bridge over Rhône River in Donzère, France
Pont du Robinet is a suspension bridge spanning 333 meters across the Rhône River, linking the departments of Drôme and Ardèche. It features a 5.5 meter-wide wooden deck supported by metal cables, with guardrails running along both sides.
The bridge was completed in 1847, replacing a ferry service that had crossed this point since the late 800s. The ferry operated under a series of renewed privileges over the centuries before the bridge was built.
The bridge name comes from Robin Berton, a local tile maker documented in historical records, whose connection to the land shaped this place's identity. The name preserves the memory of ordinary people who lived here long ago.
The bridge underwent extensive restoration work in 2010 and is safe for pedestrians and light vehicles to cross. Weather conditions should be considered before attempting the crossing, as the exposed location can be windy.
The structure endured a devastating flood in the mid-1800s that threatened other crossings in the region. It also survived extreme wind events in the early 1900s that tested the strength of its design.
