Château de Picomtal

The Château de Picomtal stands between Lake Serre-Ponçon and the Écrins Mountain Range, featuring four towers and Renaissance architectural elements on multiple levels.

The original wooden fortification from 1080 was replaced by a stone tower in the 13th century, forming the basis for subsequent castle expansions through the 14th century.

In the 1880s, carpenter Joachim Martin wrote extensive personal notes under the floorboards during renovations, documenting daily life in the French Alpine village.

The castle contains multiple suites accommodating up to four people, with the Louis XVI Suite opening to the eastern forest and southern garden views.

The Boniface Suite occupies a 13th-century round watchtower, incorporating period furniture and providing panoramic views of the castle grounds.
