Château de Lesdiguières, Medieval castle ruins in Le Glaizil, France.

Château de Lesdiguières is a castle ruin in the French Alps, positioned on a hillside and marked by stone walls. The site comprises several building sections, including the remains of a chapel that sits within the ruined landscape.

The nobleman François de Bonne ordered the castle built in 1571 and made it an important residence. A devastating attack in 1692 by mercenaries from neighboring regions destroyed large portions of the structure and sealed its decline.

The chapel dates to the early 17th century and was originally an important place where the family honored their deceased members. The space reflects the religious significance that the noble family placed on this location.

Visitors can explore the grounds on a walking trail that circles the ruin and takes about 45 minutes to complete. The path is easy to walk and suits visitors of all fitness levels.

A tunnel lies hidden beneath the rubble, its origin and destination remaining a mystery to this day. Local stories surround this underground passage and hint at wider connections that remain largely unexplored.
