Musée de l'étang de Thau

The Musée de l'Étang de Thau features exhibits about fishing techniques and shellfish farming through aquariums, videos, and scale models of traditional equipment.

The museum opened in 1991 following a successful temporary exhibition in 1981 that showcased various fishing and shellfish farming instruments from the region.

The museum recreates a typical 1950s shellfish farm building and displays traditional fishing equipment used by local maritime workers throughout generations.

Visitors can access guided tours every Wednesday at 3 PM, while independent visits are available during weekends and holidays from February through November.

The museum includes a dedicated room with orientation tables and educational displays explaining the environmental characteristics of the Thau lagoon ecosystem.
