Hook Lighthouse, Medieval lighthouse at Hook Peninsula, Ireland.

The cylindrical limestone tower rises 35 meters high at the entrance of Waterford Harbor, featuring a double balcony and lantern at its summit.

William Marshal, Earl of Pembroke, ordered the construction of this limestone tower between 1201 and 1240 to protect ships entering Waterford Harbor.

Local monks from a nearby monastery maintained warning fires and beacons at this location from the 5th century until the formal lighthouse establishment.

Visitors can climb 115 steps to reach the observation deck, where the lighthouse provides navigation signals to maritime traffic entering Waterford Harbor.

The four-story structure contains walls measuring up to 4 meters in thickness and includes three rib-vaulted chambers in its lower section.
