Lissadell House, Neo-classical country house in County Sligo, Ireland.
Lissadell House is a nine-bay, two-storey limestone country house displaying Greek Revival architecture. Its finely jointed ashlar walls and symmetrical central pediment define its classical appearance.
The Gore-Booth family built this estate between 1830 and 1835 on lands granted to them in the early 1600s. The house replaced an older medieval structure that previously occupied the site.
Sisters Constance and Eva Gore-Booth grew up here and became influential figures in Irish nationalism and poetry, inspiring poet William Butler Yeats. Their stories remain woven into the character of the house and its rooms today.
Visitors can explore the house on guided tours to see the historical rooms and architectural details. The estate's maintained gardens invite walks, and concerts are regularly held here.
The house was built using Ballysodare limestone, a locally quarried material that gives it its distinctive appearance. It stands as one of the final examples of Greek Revival construction in Ireland.
