Almatti Dam, Hydroelectric power station and dam on Krishna River, Karnataka, India
Almatti Dam is a hydroelectric power plant on the Krishna River in Karnataka equipped with six turbine generators of varying capacity. The structure holds back river water and directs it through channels for electricity generation and irrigation.
Construction of the facility began in the 1960s and was later transferred to Karnataka's power authority. Completion enabled both electricity production and improved water supply for agricultural areas across the region.
The village of Almatti, which gives the dam its name, lies on the left bank of the Krishna River. The installation supplies irrigation water to rice paddies and sugarcane fields across the surrounding region.
The dam is accessible via the main road running along the reservoir shore, which offers good viewing spots. Afternoon hours provide the clearest views of the water and surrounding landscape throughout the year.
Water that passes through the generators does not stop at the plant but flows directly into the Narayanapur reservoir downstream. This connection allows coordinated management of power and irrigation along the river course.
