Hundsturmer Kapelle, Baroque chapel in Bruno-Kreisky-Park, Vienna, Austria.
Hundsturmer Kapelle is a baroque chapel located in Bruno-Kreisky-Park in the Margareten district of Vienna's 5th district. The building features classical baroque elements with religious statues and sits at the intersection of Schönbrunner Street and St. Johann Street.
The chapel was built in 1756 as part of a program that constructed eighteen chapels along Vienna's Line Wall gates between 1740 and 1760. This initiative represented an ambitious effort to strengthen religious infrastructure across the expanding city.
The chapel houses frescoes by painter Franz Anton Maulbertsch that were uncovered in recent times. It continues to serve as a Roman Catholic place of worship and attracts those who come to see the artistic works displayed within.
The chapel sits within a public park and is accessible to visitors during park hours. The location is easy to reach and offers a quiet spot for exploring the architectural details and spending time in the space.
Eight life-sized saint statues originally stood at the chapel, but four were relocated in 1896 to Linzer Street in the 14th district. This relocation reflects the shifts that have shaped the cityscape over time.
