Roseggerhaus, Mountain hut in Ratten, Austria.
The Roseggerhaus is a mountain hut located in the Fischbach Alps at 1586 meters (5,203 feet) elevation, serving hikers and mountaineers. It provides 11 beds and 42 mattress spaces, along with a kitchen and shared facilities for guests.
The hut was established in 1900 through donations gathered by Toni Schruf to provide shelter for mountaineers. It was destroyed by fire in 1989 but was rebuilt the following year and has served as a mountain refuge since then.
The building is named after Austrian writer Peter Rosegger, who captured the traditions and way of life of Styria in his works. This naming reflects the region's connection to its literary heritage and mountain culture.
The hut is open throughout the year and provides overnight accommodation, meals, and shower facilities for visitors. Plan ahead as it accepts only cash payments and advance booking is recommended for peak seasons.
In winter, a cross-country skiing trail connects the hut to a route running from Alpl to Stuhleck, making it a central stop for winter sports enthusiasts. This trail draws skiers from across the surrounding region.
