Klockerin, Mountain summit in Salzburg, Austria

Klockerin is a summit in the Glockner Group with two distinct peaks connected by a ridge approximately 240 meters long. The highest point reaches an elevation of 3,422 meters (11,227 feet).

The first recorded ascent took place in 1869 when German alpinist Karl Hofmann reached the summit with Johann Stüdl and guides Thomas Groder and Josef Schnell. This early climb marked an important moment in the exploration history of the High Tauern range.

The name Klockerin comes from older forms like Glockerin and reflects how mountain names evolved in the Salzburg Alps. Today, climbers who visit the area connect with this linguistic past through their engagement with the peak.

To reach this peak, climbers start from Oberwalder Hut and trek through Wasserfallwinkel to reach Bockkarkees glacier, then traverse across Bärenkopfkees glacier to the summit. The route demands solid glacier experience and sure-footedness on steep terrain.

The northwest face rises nearly 920 meters with a gradient around 54 degrees, making it one of the most striking rock walls in the High Tauern. This sheer face serves as a distinctive landmark that climbers recognize from other peaks in the range.
