Klockerin, Mountain summit in Salzburg, Austria
The Klockerin summit rises to an elevation of 3,422 meters with two distinct peaks connected by a 240-meter-long ridge in the Glockner Group.
German alpinist Karl Hofmann led the first recorded ascent of Klockerin on September 18, 1869, accompanied by Johann Stüdl and mountain guides Thomas Groder and Josef Schnell.
The mountain name evolved from earlier variations including Glockerin and Glocknerin, reflecting the linguistic heritage of the Salzburg alpine region.
Access to Klockerin requires a trek from Oberwalder Hut through Wasserfallwinkel and Bockkarkees glacier, followed by a traverse across Bärenkopfkees glacier to reach the summit.
The northwest face of Klockerin presents a formidable 920-meter-high wall with a 54-degree gradient, making it a notable feature in the High Tauern range.
