Villa Raczyński, Bregenz

Villa Raczyński is a Dominican monastery in Bregenz that houses several educational institutions, including a primary school, secondary school, and vocational training center. The complex combines the main villa with adjoining buildings and a landscape park on the northwest slope of Gebhardsberg.

The monastery originated when Dominican Sisters relocated from Freiburg to Lauterach in 1878 and later settled at Villa Raczyński in Bregenz in 1904. This establishment marked the beginning of an educational mission that continues to the present day.

The place bears the name of its former owners and is shaped today by Dominican Sisters who help define the intellectual and spiritual life of the city through their schools. The daily presence of the Sisters and their students gives the site a rhythm that weaves prayer and learning together.

The site extends across multiple connected structures and a park, making it ideal for walking through the different areas. Visitors should allow adequate time to explore the entire complex, particularly the landscaped green park.

The grounds contain an 1875 villa designed by Stefan Tragl as well as an 1880 casino building with billiard rooms and bowling alleys. These leisure and sporting facilities from the Belle Epoque era are unusual in how they are architecturally integrated into a religious complex.
