Palais Neupauer-Breuner, Baroque palace in Innere Stadt, Austria

Palais Neupauer-Breuner at Singerstrasse 16 is a four-story Baroque building with an impressive facade decorated with architectural details. Stone statues of ancient gods and heroes sit in wall niches along the front, giving the exterior its distinctive character.

The palace was built in 1716 for Johann Christian Neupauer, a high-ranking court official under the Habsburgs. It suffered severe damage from bombing in 1945 but was promptly restored afterward.

The interior spaces display elaborate ceramic stoves and parquet floors that were installed during the 19th-century renovation. Old German inscriptions on wooden plaques throughout the rooms recall this period of redesign and shape how visitors experience the building today.

The building currently houses several company offices, private residences, and an auction house that holds regular antique and art sales. Keep in mind that it remains an active working building, so access to certain areas may be limited.

The central balcony displays the Breuer family coat of arms supported by cherubs, replacing the original Neupauer emblem from the early 18th century. This change in heraldry marks a shift in ownership and family connections throughout the building's history.
