Palais Goess in Klagenfurt, Baroque apartment building in Innere Stadt district, Klagenfurt, Austria.
The Palais Goëss features an elaborate baroque facade with four central pilasters on rusticated base, a grand round-arched portal with flanking pilasters, volutes, and an ornate balcony with wrought-iron railings above the entrance.
Built in 1738 when Johann Anton von Goëss unified two existing houses under a shared facade, the palace served as the urban residence of the influential Goëss noble family who had holdings in Carinthia since the 17th century.
Located on the historic Alter Platz in Klagenfurt's city center, the palace represents an important example of 18th-century baroque architecture and currently houses offices of the Federal Monuments Office for heritage conservation.
The building is accessible to visitors Monday through Friday from 09:00 to 17:00 and is located at Alter Platz 30 in Klagenfurt's historic Inner City district.
The palace preserves an original wrought-iron staircase balustrade from around 1735 and incorporates fragments of biblical inscriptions dating back to 1614 embedded within its decorative wall elements.
