Schloss Hollenburg

Schloss Hollenburg is a three-story castle near Krems that rises among vineyards overlooking the Danube. The structure displays a rectangular footprint with a two-story street facade and combines residential rooms with larger halls suited for different purposes.

The castle was constructed between 1812 and 1844 under the design of architect Josef Kornhäusl, spanning a period of major European political transformation. It became the residence of the Geymüller family starting in 1822, who occupied it for the following century.

The castle served for generations as a family seat and gathering place for celebrations, a role still reflected in how its spaces are arranged today. The furnishings and room layouts tell the story of how a prosperous 19th-century family lived and entertained.

The location sits roughly 8 kilometers southeast of Krems and is accessible by car or public transport. The grounds accommodate events and exploration by visitors, so wear sturdy shoes and allow time for walking through the surrounding vineyards.

The building contains five separate apartments, each decorated in different styles that reflect varying aesthetic approaches. This diversity makes the property an interesting example of how a single structure can accommodate multiple living spaces with distinct character.
